BALTIMORE, Md. – Maryland residents can expect a damp start to the weekend as widespread rain moves in Saturday, followed by clearing skies and cooler, gusty conditions on Sunday.

Friday will bring increasing clouds and mild temperatures, with highs near 57 degrees. Rain is likely after 4 p.m., with a 60 percent chance of precipitation. South winds will range from 5 to 9 mph, occasionally gusting to 18 mph, but rainfall totals are expected to remain light.

Rain will continue into the evening before tapering off by 9 p.m., leaving behind cloudy skies and a low around 46. Winds will calm overnight with only a slight chance of showers toward early morning.

The heaviest rain arrives Saturday, beginning shortly after sunrise. Temperatures will reach the low 50s as steady rain falls through the afternoon. Forecasters expect between a half and three-quarters of an inch of accumulation before the system begins to move out Saturday night.

Showers will likely persist into the late evening before ending around 1 a.m. Lows will drop to about 42 with light northwest winds.

Sunday will bring welcome clearing, turning mostly sunny but noticeably cooler. Highs near 47 will feel brisk under west winds of 9 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 28 mph.
