Newark, DE – A Wilmington woman with several outstanding warrants across multiple jurisdictions was arrested after Newark police stopped her driving a stolen vehicle earlier this month, officials announced.
According to the Newark Police Department, officers from the Street Crimes Unit were patrolling near South College Avenue around 6:15 p.m. on January 15 when they spotted a vehicle speeding through a business parking lot before entering traffic at Welsh Tract Road.
A registration check revealed no valid record, prompting officers to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Raneesha Matthews of Wilmington, was found to be operating a vehicle reported stolen out of New Castle County. Further investigation uncovered that Matthews had several active warrants, including from the Capitol Police and Wilmington Police Department, along with multiple capiases.

Matthews was charged with receiving stolen property valued over $1,500 and multiple traffic violations. She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and issued $5,000 cash bail plus $5,050 secured bail before being committed to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.
