LAKEHURST, NJ – Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian injured Tuesday night after being struck by a pickup truck that fled the scene, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. on January 27, 2026, near the intersection of Center Street and Hibernia Avenue. Responding Lakehurst police officers found a man who had been hit by a vehicle while walking southbound on Center Street.

An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit–Vehicular Homicide Squad, Lakehurst Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that the victim was struck from behind by a light-colored gray or silver pickup truck. The driver continued south without stopping, rendering aid, or notifying police.

Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he is listed in stable condition.

Prosecutor Billhimer released an image showing a light-colored pickup truck believed to be connected to the case, calling it “the best picture we have at this time.”
