Serial downtown burglar arrested after months-long spree
Baltimore, MD – A man tracked through a downtown building by security cameras was taken into custody after officers moved in and recovered stolen electronics, bringing an abrupt halt to a string of commercial burglaries that had quietly stretched across central Baltimore for months.
Jerome Hill, 43, was arrested January 28 after officers responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 200 block of East Redwood Street. Building security told officers the suspect was actively moving through the property and was being monitored on closed-circuit television, with sightings placing him on multiple floors before he entered a parking garage.
Officers located Hill inside the building and arrested him without incident. During the arrest, police recovered 11 iPads believed to be stolen during the burglary.
Following the arrest, detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and linked Hill to 12 commercial burglary incidents dating back to October. Police said the cases were concentrated in the downtown area and involved repeated locations targeted more than once.
According to investigators, Hill is connected to burglaries at 217 East Redwood Street on January 24, 1 East Pratt Street on January 12, multiple locations on January 1 including 17 West Mulberry Street and 200 St. Paul Street, as well as earlier incidents at Light Street, East Lexington Street, North Howard Street, and St. Paul Street between October and November.
Police said Hill has a prior history of burglary-related offenses. He remains in custody at Central Booking while charges are finalized. Detectives said the investigation remains active as they review additional evidence and potential related cases.
Baltimore Police are asking anyone with information related to these incidents to contact investigators.
