Newark, NJ – Newark officials are warning residents to prepare for significant snowfall Sunday, with 7 to 10 inches expected to blanket the city and trigger strict parking enforcement on snow-covered roadways.
Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. issued a traffic advisory update advising motorists to follow the city’s posted “No Parking on Snow Covered Roads” regulations as the winter storm moves in. Snow accumulations are forecast throughout Sunday, with enforcement set to begin once streets are covered.
Under City Ordinance 23 6 2, vehicles parked on designated snow emergency routes will be towed during the snow emergency. Officials said there will be no vehicle relocations, and owners will be responsible for all towing costs.
Signs identifying no-parking snow routes have been posted throughout Newark. When snowfall accumulates to the point that streets are covered, parking is prohibited on major roadways or designated portions thereof.
Residents are also reminded that double parking is prohibited during snow emergencies to allow plows to clear streets efficiently.
No relocations and school lots open for parking
City officials said residents may park vehicles at designated Newark Public School parking lots during the emergency. Locations for available lots can be found on the city’s website.
The advisory is part of Newark’s broader Snow Emergency response plan aimed at keeping primary roads clear for emergency vehicles and essential travel.
