Atlantic City readies for blizzard and coastal flood threat

February 21, 2026

Atlantic City, NJ – City officials are mobilizing ahead of a severe winter storm expected to bring blizzard conditions, up to two feet of snow, and moderate coastal flooding beginning Sunday and lasting into Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service, Atlantic City could receive as much as 24 inches of snowfall, with wind gusts reaching 52 miles per hour. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds is forecast to create whiteout visibility and hazardous travel conditions across the city.

Moderate coastal flooding is anticipated late Sunday evening and potentially again around midday Monday, which could further impact roadways and municipal operations. Officials warned the storm poses a serious threat to life and safety and strongly discouraged travel except for emergencies.

The Atlantic City Department of Public Works has activated full storm operations, including brining, salting, and plowing. Crews will operate continuously throughout the event to maintain access for emergency services. The city’s Emergency Operations Center will open Sunday evening and remain active through at least Monday evening, with the timeline subject to extension based on conditions.

Snow emergency routes and towing enforcement

Snow emergency routes will be enforced beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday morning. Vehicles parked along designated corridors will be subject to towing.

Designated routes include Atlantic Avenue, Martin Luther King Boulevard, Ohio Avenue, Indiana Avenue, Melrose Avenue, Arctic Avenue, and Fairmount Avenue/Baltic Avenue.

The Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management, along with the Atlantic City Police and Fire Departments, will stage additional personnel and apparatus to respond to storm-related incidents.

At the request of the city’s Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has authorized free parking for residents and visitors at the Wave Parking Garage at Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues and the Showboat Hotel Parking Garage through at least Tuesday, weather permitting.
