Police release video in hunt for rider who hit kids
Washington, DC — Police are searching for a dirt bike rider accused of striking two children and fleeing the scene, leaving one critically injured in Northwest Washington.
The crash occurred around 6:52 p.m. April 4 at the intersection of 14th Street and Chapin Street Northwest, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Investigators said the two juvenile males were riding an e-bike in a bike lane when they were hit by a dirt bike operator. One of the children was transported to a hospital unconscious with serious injuries, while the second was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate the rider lifted the dirt bike onto its back wheel moments before the collision.
Police said the suspect fled northbound on 14th Street as part of a larger group of dirt bikes and ATVs. Surveillance video captured the rider involved, along with the group.
Detectives from the Major Crash Investigations Unit are leading the investigation.
