BLACKWOOD, N.J. — Gloucester Township families will once again have the chance to grow their own vegetables as the Kiwanis Club of Gloucester Township Children’s Garden reopens Monday at the Gloucester Township Police Department Family Resource Center.
The free community garden program returns May 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 1324 Little Gloucester Road in Blackwood, where families can claim garden beds, receive plants, and get hands-on help with planting from volunteers and organizers. Gloucester Township Police said tools and light refreshments will also be available during opening day activities.
Free Garden Program Returns for Local Families
The Children’s Garden program, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Gloucester Township and the Gloucester Township Police Department, aims to provide families with access to gardening space while encouraging outdoor activity and family engagement.
Organizers said the garden is open to all Gloucester Township families at no cost.
“Come out and claim your garden bed, it’s a great way to spend time as a family and grow your own veggies,” the department said in a Facebook announcement posted Saturday.
The garden operates from the Gloucester Township PD Family Resource Center, which regularly hosts outreach programs and community-focused initiatives throughout the year.
Community Partnership Supports Family Activities
The reopening marks the return of one of the township’s seasonal family programs centered on healthy eating, outdoor learning, and neighborhood involvement. Participants will have access to gardening assistance as well as starter plants to help families begin growing vegetables immediately.
The Gloucester Township Police Department has increasingly expanded its role in community-based programming through its Family Resource Center, partnering with local organizations to provide recreational and educational opportunities for residents.
The Kiwanis Club of Gloucester Township, a longtime civic organization in the area, continues to support youth and family-focused initiatives through volunteer projects and sponsorships.
