ICE Agent Struck by Vehicle on Route 72 as Suspect Escapes; Federal Investigation Underway

An ICE agent was injured after being struck by a vehicle during an incident on Route 72 in Stafford Township, where federal agents reportedly fired shots as a suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

Federal and local authorities are investigating an incident that left an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent injured Tuesday morning along Route 72 near Mermaid Drive in Stafford Township. The suspect fled before police arrived and had not been located as of Tuesday evening.

The Stafford Township Police Department responded after receiving an emergency report of shots fired and an injured officer in the area.

Officers Find Injured ICE Agent

Responding officers located an injured ICE agent and immediately began providing medical aid, according to police. The agent was later transported for additional treatment.

“Stafford Township Police Officers responded immediately to find an injured I.C.E. agent who officers then provided first aid to and facilitated his transport for further treatment,” the department said in an update.

Authorities have not released details about the extent of the agent’s injuries.

Suspect Remains at Large

Police said officers launched a search for the suspect but were unable to locate the individual, who had already fled the area.

“Officers also attempted to locate the suspect who had fled the scene before their arrival,” the department said.

Multiple reports indicate federal agents discharged their weapons during the encounter, though investigators have not publicly released details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or whether anyone was struck by gunfire.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation assumed control of the investigation after the scene was secured.

Route 72 Reopened Following Investigation

The incident temporarily disrupted traffic along Route 72 while investigators processed the scene. Authorities later reopened the roadway in both directions.

“The scene was secured by responding officers and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continued the investigation,” Stafford Township police said.

Officials emphasized that there are currently no known threats to the public.

“Route 72 is now open in both directions and there continues to be no known safety concerns to the public,” the department added.

Stafford Township police said they will review potential local charges once the federal investigation is completed.
