CUMBERLAND, MD – A Wednesday evening crash in the 20 block of Greene Street left a cyclist injured and led to the arrest of a Cumberland man on drug and impaired driving charges, according to a release from the Cumberland Police Department. The incident drew a multi-agency response as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 5:54 p.m. after reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a cyclist. The injured cyclist was taken to UPMC with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Charges filed after preliminary investigation
According to the Cumberland Police Department, “On 07/22/26 at 5:54 p.m., units from the Cumberland Police and Fire departments responded to the 20 block of Greene Street for a motor vehicle crash.” Following the initial investigation, police said “Levi Jones of Cumberland was arrested for CDS possession other than marijuana.”
Officials further stated that Jones “was charged with several traffic offenses for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance and is pending trial in District Court.” No additional details about the suspected substance were released.
Crash reconstruction underway
The crash remains under active investigation by specialized units. Police said, “The crash remains an active investigation by the Cumberland Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team with assistance from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team.”
Authorities are asking for public assistance as the investigation continues. “Anyone with information regarding this crash is encouraged to contact Sergeant Sullivan of the Cumberland Police Department at 301-777-1600,” the department said. Officials added that additional details will be released once the investigation is complete.
