Police say man arrested hours later is accused in homicide that left Norwood resident dead and another victim injured
BOSTON, MA — A man arrested after allegedly attacking another person with a metal pole in downtown Boston has now been charged with murder after investigators linked him to a deadly assault near Boston Common that claimed the life of a 35-year-old Norwood man.
Boston Police identified the homicide victim as Jonathan Sanon, 35, of Norwood.
According to investigators, officers responded at approximately 5:18 a.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Boylston Street and Tremont Street for a report of a man down.
When officers arrived, they found Sanon suffering from trauma. Boston EMS transported him to Tufts Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Later that morning, at approximately 9:49 a.m., officers assigned to District A-1 arrested a person of interest at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Surface Road and Beach Street in connection with a separate assault that had occurred earlier in the day.
Police said the suspect was found carrying a metal pole. Investigators determined a second victim had been approached from behind and struck with the pole, causing him to fall to the ground. That victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Following additional investigation, the Boston Police Homicide Unit determined the suspect in the fatal Boylston Street and Tremont Street attack was the same person arrested in the Beach Street assault.
Police identified the suspect as Ashlie Jeremie, 27, of Bedford.
Jeremie has been charged with murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and larceny under $1,200.
He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
The charges against Jeremie are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
The Boston Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the homicide.
