Police say additional drug charge filed after Cumberland arrest

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Cumberland man wanted on a bench warrant is facing an additional drug charge after officers allegedly found suspected methamphetamine during his arrest, according to police.

The Cumberland Police Department said officers served a bench warrant on 42-year-old Samuel David Goetz on Aug. 7 for failure to comply.

Police said Goetz had originally been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis, disorderly conduct, second-degree assault and disturbing the peace by loud noise.

During a search conducted as part of the arrest, officers allegedly discovered suspected methamphetamine on Goetz, resulting in an additional criminal citation for possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis.

Following an initial appearance before a District Court commissioner, Goetz was ordered held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

The charges are allegations, and Goetz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
