45-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries in 1:36 a.m. crash
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – A 45-year-old Virginia Beach man died after his vehicle veered off Laskin Road and struck a traffic signal pole during an early-morning crash, with police now investigating what led up to the deadly collision.
Virginia Beach Police identified the driver Tuesday as Jerry G. Griggs of Virginia Beach.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 1:36 a.m. July 26 in the 1200 block of Laskin Road.
Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizens Services received the initial report of the crash.
Police officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and found Griggs suffering from life-threatening injuries.
He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Griggs remained hospitalized until approximately 4:22 p.m. July 27, when medical personnel pronounced him dead.
A preliminary investigation found that Griggs’ vehicle left the roadway before striking a traffic signal pole, according to police.
Virginia Beach Police have not released information concerning why the vehicle left the road.
The department also did not report another vehicle being involved in the collision.
The Virginia Beach Police Department Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
