Fair Lawn woman accused of fleeing crash that also injured child’s mother
FAIR LAWN, NJ – A 67-year-old woman has been arrested after police say her SUV struck a 5-year-old child and the child’s mother in a marked Fair Lawn crosswalk before she drove away, leaving the young victim seriously injured.
Maritza Salazar-Perez, of Fair Lawn, was arrested within hours of Tuesday morning’s crash, according to information released by the Hackensack Police Department citing the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The collision occurred at Broadway and Fair Lawn Parkway at 32nd Street.
Investigators determined Salazar-Perez was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot when the vehicle struck the child and mother while they were in a marked crosswalk.
The 5-year-old suffered serious injuries, while the mother sustained minor injuries, authorities said.
Police did not provide additional information about the child’s condition.
Investigators allege Salazar-Perez left the scene after striking the pedestrians.
She was located and arrested within hours.
Authorities said she faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury and endangering an injured victim.

Hackensack Police assisted with the investigation as a member of the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force.
