TRENTON, N.J. – Two people were killed and eight others wounded when multiple gunmen opened fire on a large block party in Trenton early Sunday morning, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
The shooting erupted around 12:23 a.m. in the 100 block of Locust Street, where investigators said approximately 100 people had gathered for a block party. Multiple suspects walked up to the gathering and began firing into the crowd, according to the preliminary investigation.
Ten adults suffered gunshot wounds. A 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were pronounced dead, while eight surviving victims — two women and six men ranging in age from 23 to 43 — were treated at Capital Health Regional Medical Center and stabilized.

More Than 50 Shell Casings Found on Locust Street
Trenton patrol officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Locust Street for a shooting in progress.
When officers arrived, they encountered several adult gunshot victims. The wounded were ultimately taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center either by ambulance or private vehicle, prosecutors said.
The scale of the shooting left investigators processing the entire 100 block of Locust Street as a crime scene.
More than 50 spent shell casings were recovered, and multiple vehicles were struck by gunfire, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The preliminary investigation indicates that multiple suspects approached the block party and fired into the crowd. Authorities have not disclosed how many shooters they believe were involved, what type of firearms were used or whether investigators have determined a motive.
The names of the two people killed were not immediately released.
Homicide Detectives Reviewing Surveillance Video
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department are jointly investigating the double homicide and mass shooting.
Trenton Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit processed the sprawling scene. Officers from the Ewing Police Department also responded to assist with crowd control as investigators worked along Locust Street.
Homicide Task Force detectives are now reviewing surveillance footage and trying to identify witnesses who may have information about the shooters or what happened immediately before the gunfire.
No arrests had been made when the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced the investigation Sunday.
The shooting leaves detectives with a substantial amount of physical and potential video evidence to examine. With roughly 100 people reportedly at the party, investigators are also seeking witnesses who may have seen the suspects approach or leave the area.
