TOMS RIVER, NJ – For the 12th time since being appointed as head of the Toms River legal department, New Jersey Assemblyman Gregory P. McGuckin has been a no-show at town hall in the twice-monthly township council meetings. McGuckin was appointed to the no-show position by Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill and other council members after McGuckin donated thousands of dollars to the campaign to elect Hill and councilmen Josh Kopp, Matt Lotano, and Kevin Geoghegan. Each meeting, the town council votes on McGuckin’s legal bills, despite McGuckin actually being paid to be in appearance at the Jackson Township town council meetings. On Tuesday, Toms River Councilman Daniel Rodrick said enough is enough and voted no to pay McGuckin’s thousands of dollars in legal bills. Toms River Township’s contract with McGuckin is estimated to be worth $500,000 annually. McGuckin is a former Toms River Councilman. In 2008, he had to suspend his political campaign after being levied with over $100,000 in liens from the IRS for non-payment of income taxes.
