Silver Spring Detectives Arrest Two Men in Connection to Armed Robberies

SILVER SPRING, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged two men in connection to a series of armed robberies in Silver Spring.

Shamell Naquan Joyner, 35, of Washington D.C., and Aaron Christopher Johnson, 30, of an unconfirmed address, were taken into custody after comprehensive investigations. Joyner is implicated in an armed robbery that occurred on Friday, at an Exxon gas station in the 9300 block of Georgia Ave.

Surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts suggest that Joyner locked the front door of the gas station upon entering, brandished a handgun, and demanded the employee to open the cash register. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, Joyner made a swift exit.

Both Joyner and Johnson are also accused of a similar armed robbery at a 7-Eleven store in the 8400 block of Georgia Ave on May 2, 2023.

Police state that Joyner approached the counter, again displayed a firearm and demanded cash. After successfully robbing the store, Joyner and Johnson fled the scene together.
