Shark bite sends teen surfer to hospital at the jersey shore

Stone Harbor, NJ – A teenage surfer was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after reportedly being bitten by a shark, according to officials from Stone Harbor. The incident occurred when the 15-year-old girl, a resident of Pennsylvania, was surfing near the 109th Street Beach.

Upon the attack, the surfer suffered lacerations to her left foot and calf. She received immediate on-site treatment for her injuries and was later transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for further evaluation. Officials stated that the girl received six stitches, and thankfully her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

Stone Harbor officials reported that the New Jersey State Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an investigation and determined that the injuries sustained by the surfer were consistent with those typically associated with a shark attack.
