WASHINGTON, DC – Quincy Garvin, 23, was sentenced today to 36 years in prison for his involvement in a 2017 shooting that resulted in the death of Carl Hardy, 24. Garvin was found guilty in July 2022 on multiple charges, including first-degree murder while armed and participation in a criminal street gang.
According to evidence presented, Garvin was part of a street gang active in Wellington Park, Washington, D.C., between May and October 2017. The gang had ongoing disputes with other groups, often stemming from rivalries among local rap groups.
On the evening of September 10, 2017, Hardy was standing in the Potomac Gardens area when Garvin, along with three others, circled the neighborhood in a vehicle. On their fourth pass, the vehicle stopped to let Garvin and two other men out, who were armed with multiple firearms. They opened fire on the crowded courtyard, discharging over 30 rounds and striking Hardy. The group then fled the scene.
Hardy was transported to the hospital and underwent multiple surgeries but succumbed to his injuries on October 1, 2017. An arrest warrant for Garvin was issued shortly after Hardy’s death. A second shooter, Saquan Williams, was sentenced to 35 years in prison on September 14, 2023.
