PHILADELPHIA, PA – District Attorney Larry Krasner announced Friday that Zhontay Capers has been charged with the murder of SEPTA bus driver Bernard Gribbin. The shooting occurred on Thursday, October 26.
Capers faces multiple charges, including Murder, Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act 6105 (F1), Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act 6106 (F3), Possession of an Instrument of Crime (M1), and Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2). Bernard Gribbin, 45, was operating a bus on SEPTA’s Route 23 when he was shot multiple times in his right side by Capers.
Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the killing. Surveillance video shows Capers holding a firearm at the front of the bus moments before the alleged shooting. Gribbin was on duty at the time of the incident. The investigation continues.
