NEWARK, DE – A Newark resident was apprehended following a burglary incident on December 8. At approximately 8:22 a.m., Newark Police were dispatched to a vacant building in the 1100-block of South College Avenue after receiving reports of a suspected burglary.
Upon arrival, officers discovered signs of forced entry, including a cut lock on the rear door and abandoned bolt cutters. During a thorough search of the building, police located Zachary Hufnell, 34, from Newark, concealing himself in a crawl space. Hufnell attempted to evade arrest by dropping through a floor hole and fleeing on foot. However, officers quickly engaged in a pursuit and subsequently apprehended him without further incident.
A search conducted during Hufnell’s arrest revealed possession of methamphetamine. Additionally, tools presumed to be used for breaking into the building and cut copper wire were found in his possession.
