Fatal December Taxi Collision Left Two Dead, Suspect Remains At Large

ELIZABETH, NJ — The Attorney General’s Office has released the names of two civilians who perished in a tragic motor vehicle crash on December 10 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The deceased are identified as Juan Carlos Albear, 54, and Ysabell Gonzalez, 63, both residents of Elizabeth.

The incident unfolded early in the morning of December 10, when Elizabeth Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire near Fourth Avenue and Centre Street. Officer Michael White pursued a vehicle linked to the reported incident. The vehicle, fleeing at high speed, ran a red light and crashed into a taxi at the intersection of Grand Street and Routes 1&9.

The taxi driver, Mr. Albear, and his passenger, Ms. Gonzalez, were both fatally injured in the collision. Two occupants of the fleeing vehicle were apprehended and hospitalized with non-critical injuries, while a third occupant fled the scene and remains at large.
