Massive Car Takeover in Greenbelt Leads to Police Call for Backup

by Jeff Jones

Greenbelt, MD – A chaotic scene unfolded on Hanover Parkway in Greenbelt when approximately 100 cars commandeered an intersection, engaging in reckless behavior including performing donuts around a solitary police officer on the scene. The unexpected and dangerous situation prompted the Greenbelt Police Department to request immediate support from “every agency possible” to manage the crowd and restore order.

The incident, which escalated quickly, also involved a close call where a police cruiser, belonging to a different agency responding to the call for assistance, was nearly struck by one of the vehicles involved in the takeover. This large-scale disruption not only posed a significant risk to public safety but also to law enforcement personnel attempting to control the situation.
