ALBANY, NEW YORK — Adam Gomez, a 26-year-old resident of Brooklyn, New York, has entered a guilty plea for possessing a handgun with an obliterated serial number. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Matthew Scarpino, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
Gomez’s guilty plea is related to an incident on September 8, 2022, when he was found in possession of a Glock 17 handgun with an obliterated serial number in a shopping mall parking lot in Albany County.
As a consequence of his plea, Gomez faces up to five years in prison, a possible fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing will be determined by a judge, taking into account the specific statute violated, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other relevant factors.
