Police say detectives spotted the 41-year-old suspect while still investigating the robbery

WASHINGTON, DC – A man armed with a knife waited for a cash register to open before grabbing money from a Northwest DC business early Friday, only to be spotted outside the same establishment and arrested while detectives were still investigating the robbery, according to police.

Third District officers responded at approximately 5:04 a.m. Friday to an establishment in the 1700 block of Columbia Road NW following a reported robbery.

Police said the suspect had entered the business and waited until the victim opened the register.

Once the register was open, the suspect allegedly displayed a knife and took money directly from it.

The man fled before responding officers arrived.

Detectives were still conducting their investigation at the business when the suspect was seen outside the establishment, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Police said officers quickly arrested him.

The suspect was identified as Andre Macray Seay, 41, of Northwest DC.

Seay was charged with robbery while armed with a knife.

Police did not disclose how much money was taken or whether the stolen cash was recovered.

The charge is an accusation, and Seay is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
