After 30 years of trying Ohio woman finally lands $100K Lottery win

A Medina resident finally made it onto the Ohio Lottery’s Cash Explosion show and walked away with a six-figure prize

Medina, OH — More than three decades after she first started hoping for a chance to appear on the Ohio Lottery’s Cash Explosion television show, a Medina woman turned that long wait into a $100K payday.

Mary’s winning journey began when relatives called to tell her they had seen her name announced on television as a selected contestant for Cash Explosion.

What started as a surprise quickly became a life-changing experience.

Mary appeared on the show on April 11, where she won $50K. She returned the following week on April 18 and won another $50K, bringing her total winnings to $100K.

After mandatory state and federal tax withholdings totaling 26.75%, Mary received $73,250.

The Medina resident said she has already used part of her winnings to make improvements to her vehicle and add brick veneer to her home.

For now, however, she is taking her time before making any additional major purchases.

Mary also said she hopes to eventually head west and try her luck panning for gold.

The Ohio Lottery said Mary had spent more than 30 years trying to earn a spot on Cash Explosion and was overwhelmed by finally making it onto the show.

According to lottery officials, she remains emotional whenever she watches her episodes.

The winning entry was sold at EZ Shop Food Mart, located at 6630 Norwalk Road in Medina.

Cash Explosion is the Ohio Lottery’s long-running television game show, giving players the opportunity to win cash prizes through on-air appearances and bonus drawings.
