WOODBRIDGE, NJ – Amazon Fresh, the e-commerce giant’s innovative grocery service, is making significant strides in expanding its physical presence across New Jersey, bringing a blend of convenience, technology, and fresh offerings to local communities. Amazon Fresh kicked off its brick-and-mortar journey in New Jersey with notable enthusiasm.

Earlier this year, the retailer opened its fourth location in Woodland Park, where eager customers lined up as early as 4:30 a.m. for the grand opening.

The excitement was good news for the company, highlighting the appeal of Amazon’s hybrid model, which merges the ease of online shopping with an elevated in-store experience.

Building on this momentum, Amazon has now set its sights on further expansion across the state.

One of the latest developments is the confirmation of a new Amazon Fresh store in Hanover Township’s Cedar Knolls Plaza, formerly known as the Morris County Mall.

After months of speculation and renovations that began last year, the Hanover Township Committee unanimously approved Amazon Fresh as the newest tenant in September 2024.

The 43,500-square-foot space, once home to a Foodtown grocery store, is being transformed to accommodate Amazon’s high-tech grocery concept. While an exact opening date remains under wraps, local officials and residents are eagerly anticipating its debut.

Elsewhere in New Jersey, Amazon Fresh has already established a foothold with stores in Eatontown (opened in June 2024), Lodi (August 2024), and the aforementioned Woodland Park (November 2024). These locations join a broader network of 60 Amazon Fresh stores nationwide, with New Jersey emerging as a key focus of the company’s expansion efforts.

Launched as a grocery delivery service in 2007, Amazon Fresh opened its first physical store in Woodland Hills, California, in 2020. Since then, it has evolved into a tech-driven grocery chain that caters to modern shoppers. New Jersey stores feature Amazon’s latest brick-and-mortar design, including innovations like the “Just Walk Out” technology in select locations, allowing customers to shop and leave without traditional checkout lines. This seamless integration of online and in-store shopping has been a major draw for customers.

Beyond convenience, Amazon Fresh offers competitive pricing and exclusive perks for Prime members. Shoppers can enjoy up to 30% off on 4,000 weekly rotating grocery items, both in-store and online, alongside Prime Savings, which provides an additional 10% off hundreds of products. From fresh produce to pantry staples, the stores aim to deliver value and variety tailored to local tastes.

The arrival of Amazon Fresh in New Jersey is more than just a retail expansion—it’s a boost to local economies.

The new stores are creating jobs, from in-store staff to logistics roles, while revitalizing shopping centers like Cedar Knolls Plaza. In Hanover, the addition of Amazon Fresh complements existing anchors like Walmart and Planet Fitness, breathing new life into a site that has faced competition from newer retail developments nearby.
