Anne Arundel County man wins big in Mega Millions drawing

June 12, 2025

HANOVER, Md. — A longtime Maryland Lottery player from Anne Arundel County has claimed a $40,020 prize from the Mega Millions drawing, marking his largest win to date.

The government employee, who has been playing the lottery for more than two decades, visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Wednesday to collect his winnings. He has chosen to remain anonymous.

“I’ve been playing for more than two decades,” the winner said. “Mega Millions and Powerball are the games I enjoy playing the most.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Exxon at the Mills, located at 7671 Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover. The player scanned a group of tickets he had purchased in May and was greeted with the message: “Winner, take to Lottery.”

Routine play leads to largest prize yet

“As soon as I saw that message, I knew it meant something big,” the winner said. Upon learning the prize was $40,020, he described his reaction as disbelief, adding, “I really felt lucky.”

The winner said he plans to use the money to pay off bills and invest in home renovations, specifically to upgrade his bathroom.

The Maryland Lottery continues to record wins from both casual and longtime players, with Mega Millions remaining one of its most popular games.
