COLUMBIA, Md. — A Columbia man has won his second significant prize playing the Maryland Lottery’s Racetrax game, taking home $53,438.

The retired military veteran, who previously claimed a Racetrax prize a few years ago, matched four numbers on a ticket purchased on May 22. His winning combination was 10, 4, 7, and 9.

“I love playing this game,” he said, explaining his strategy of picking three high numbers and one low number. “I keep playing the same numbers,” the Howard County resident added.

The winner plans to deposit the prize money in the bank. The Short Stop Convenience store at 10300 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia, where he bought the ticket, will receive a $534.38 bonus, equal to 1% of the prize.

Both of his winning combinations were close in number, following a strategy he has used over time. Racetrax remains one of the Maryland Lottery’s popular games, combining elements of horse racing and keno-style betting.
