Armed suspect leads police on high speed chase across Rockland County before surrending to police

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. — A domestic disturbance involving a firearm escalated into a high-speed police pursuit late Saturday night, culminating in a peaceful surrender after a multi-hour standoff in Clarkstown, police said.

The incident began around 11 p.m. when the Haverstraw Police Department responded to a report of a domestic incident. Before officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle while armed.

Haverstraw Police located the vehicle traveling along Route 9W in the Village of Haverstraw and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect refused to comply, initiating a chase that spanned several jurisdictions across Rockland County.

During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle collided with multiple police vehicles, injuring one officer. The officer was treated at Nyack Hospital and later released.

The pursuit ended in the Town of Clarkstown near Zucker Road and Old Route 304, where the suspect barricaded himself inside the vehicle with the firearm visible. A prolonged standoff followed.

The suspect eventually surrendered without further incident and handed over the firearm. No additional injuries were reported.

“The incident was brought to a safe resolution,” the Haverstraw Police Department stated.

Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the New York State Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Clarkstown Police Department, and several specialized units.
