LOS ANGELES, CA—A physician and a reputed drug dealer have been arrested in Los Angeles for their alleged roles in the ketamine overdose death of actor Matthew Perry in October 2023. The arrests are part of a broader case involving five defendants charged with various offenses related to Perry’s death.
Today, Jasveen Sangha, 41, known as “The Ketamine Queen” of North Hollywood, and Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 42, of Santa Monica, were arraigned on multiple charges including conspiracy to distribute ketamine. The charges stem from an 18-count superseding indictment focusing on their distribution of ketamine to Perry during his final weeks.
Sangha faces additional charges including maintaining a drug-involved premises and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and ketamine. Plasencia is charged with several counts of ketamine distribution and falsifying documents related to the investigation.
United States Attorney Martin Estrada condemned the defendants for prioritizing profit over Perry’s well-being, stressing the severe consequences of dealing dangerous substances. LAPD Chief Dominic Choi and DEA Administrator Anne Milgram also highlighted the coordinated effort required to bring these individuals to justice.
The superseding indictment details a disturbing pattern of behavior by the accused, including the direct involvement of Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s personal assistant, who is said to have injected Perry with ketamine under Plasencia’s guidance. Dr. Mark Chavez, another physician involved, admitted to obtaining and selling ketamine used in the incidents leading to Perry’s death.
This case highlights ongoing efforts by federal and local authorities to combat the illegal distribution of controlled substances, even involving medical professionals, and to hold accountable those responsible for drug-related deaths.
