Newark Woman Beaten and Robbed While Sitting In Front of Her Home

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé is calling for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery. The incident occurred on Saturday, at approximately 10:06 p.m., on Houston Street.

The victim, who was sitting on her porch at the time, was approached by a male suspect who exited a silver minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey.

The suspect, described as a 5’9” Black male with a medium build, was armed and wearing a black ski mask, hoodie, and pants. After assaulting the victim by punching her in the face, he snatched her purse containing $200 and bank cards. The suspect then fled the scene in the minivan, which featured tinted rear windows and dark-colored rims, heading northbound on Houston Street toward New York Avenue.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle to come forward to aid in the investigation.
