Atlantic City Police Arrest Armed Carjacking Suspect

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—The Atlantic City Police Department announced the arrest of an armed individual accused of attempting a carjacking with a child present in the vehicle. The incident occurred early Friday morning at Bellevue and Pacific Avenues. A woman approached Officer Andy Nunez-Santos around 1:10 AM after a man tried to enter her vehicle while armed with a handgun, with her child also inside.

The woman, who did not initially call 911, provided a detailed description of the suspect to Officer Nunez-Santos. This information was relayed to nearby officers. Sergeants Christian Ivanov and Daniel Arra later spotted the suspect, identified as Tuwan Gainer, 31, of Atlantic City, at the intersection of Florida and Pacific Avenues.

Gainer attempted to flee on foot but was pursued and apprehended by the sergeants despite resisting arrest. He was found carrying a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest. Gainer faces multiple charges including carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He is currently being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. It is important to note that these charges are accusations, and Gainer is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
