BALTIMORE, MD – A 31-year-old man is behind bars after police say he shot a robbery victim in South Baltimore early Tuesday morning, sending the wounded man to a nearby fire station in search of help.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, Preston Freeman was arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting of a 36-year-old male in the city’s Southern District. Freeman has been charged with Attempted Murder and is being held at the Central Booking Intake Facility.
Officers were first dispatched around 6:18 a.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of Maude Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting victim. When they arrived, they located a man suffering from what was described as a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Investigators determined the victim had been shot during the course of a robbery in the 4000 block of 5th Avenue. After being wounded, the man walked to a nearby fire station in the 400 block of Maude Avenue, where emergency personnel contacted police.
Arrest made without incident on 5th Street
On Wednesday, Southern District patrol officers located and arrested Freeman in the 3900 block of 5th Street. Police said the arrest was made without incident. The case remains under investigation by detectives assigned to the Southern District.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances of the robbery or whether the suspect and victim were known to each other. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
