Medical examiner determined David Reichman died from hyperthermia after being left unattended in the vehicle
BALTIMORE, MD – A 1-year-old Baltimore boy died from heat exposure after being left unattended inside his family’s vehicle, and more than a month later a 32-year-old man has turned himself in to face an involuntary manslaughter charge in the child’s death.
Yaakov Reichman, 32, was arrested in connection with the July 16 death of 1-year-old David Reichman, according to Baltimore Police.
The Maryland Medical Examiner’s Office determined David’s cause of death was hyperthermia from heat exposure.

Police said the child had been left unattended inside the family vehicle.
The case began at approximately 1:40 p.m. July 16 when officers responded to the 6200 block of Greenspring Avenue for a report of an unconscious child.
Officers arrived and found the 1-year-old boy unresponsive.
Medics attempted life-saving measures but were unable to revive him.
David was pronounced dead at the scene.
His remains were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine what caused his death.
The preliminary investigation indicated the child had been left inside the vehicle before being discovered by his parent, according to Baltimore Police.
Following the medical examiner’s determination that David died from hyperthermia caused by heat exposure, homicide detectives arrested Reichman in connection with the death.
Reichman turned himself in at Baltimore Police Headquarters on Monday.
He was subsequently transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Police did not provide additional information about how long David was inside the vehicle or the circumstances that led to him being left unattended.
The department also did not specify Reichman’s relationship to the child in its arrest announcement.
The involuntary manslaughter charge is an allegation, and Reichman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The arrest comes more than a month after medics tried unsuccessfully to save 1-year-old David Reichman on Greenspring Avenue and investigators began working to determine how the child died.
