Barricade standoff in Frederick ends peacefully with suspect in custody

FREDERICK, MD – A tense police standoff in a quiet Frederick neighborhood ended peacefully Saturday afternoon after an hours-long barricade incident that drew a heavy law enforcement response to Willowdale Drive.

According to the Frederick Police Department, officers were called to the 100 block of Willowdale Drive earlier in the day after an individual barricaded themselves inside a residence. Police surrounded the home and urged residents to avoid the area as crisis negotiators worked to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

At approximately 4:35 p.m., police confirmed that the individual was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the community and that roadways in the area are being reopened.

During the standoff, nearby residents were advised to shelter indoors as officers established a perimeter and maintained communication with the barricaded subject. Police have not yet released the person’s identity or any details regarding what led to the incident.

The department thanked the public for its patience and cooperation while the situation unfolded.
