Beer bottle attack outside South Boston bar sparks hunt for mystery suspect

Police release images after man allegedly smashed bottle over victim’s head during late-night confrontation

BOSTON, Mass. — Boston police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man accused of striking another man in the head with a beer bottle during a violent overnight confrontation in South Boston.

The aggravated assault happened around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, near 425 West Broadway Street, according to the Boston Police Department.

Officers responding to the scene spoke with the victim, who said he and his girlfriend were approached by an unknown man who began verbally harassing them.

Police said the victim confronted the suspect before the two briefly separated following a verbal dispute.

Investigators said the suspect allegedly continued making lewd gestures toward the victim’s girlfriend, which escalated into a physical altercation.

During the confrontation, the victim was struck in the head with a beer bottle, according to police.

The suspect fled the area before officers arrived.

Police described the suspect as a white man between 26 and 30 years old, standing approximately 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 with dark hair and a beard.

Detectives assigned to District C-6 in South Boston are continuing to investigate the incident and released surveillance images in hopes of identifying the suspect.
