Police say customer brandished knife during dispute before bystander stepped in to stop chaos

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Washington, D.C., man has been arrested weeks after police said a heated dispute inside a Southeast sandwich shop escalated into a frightening knife confrontation.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrest of 27-year-old Tajma Damni Dockery of Southeast D.C. in connection with an assault with a dangerous weapon investigation.

According to investigators, the incident happened around 7:24 p.m. on March 27 inside a sandwich shop in the 2200 block of Town Center Drive Southeast.

Police said Dockery allegedly picked up a knife during a dispute and brandished it at the victim inside the business.

Before anyone was hurt, a bystander intervened and safely removed the knife from the suspect, according to MPD.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

Authorities said the victim was not injured during the confrontation.

After developing investigative leads, detectives identified Dockery as the suspect.

On May 17, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Dockery pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant.

Dockery was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon involving a knife.
