Bensalem Police Arrest Suspect in Robbery of Elderly Woman’s Jewelry

October 9, 2024

Bensalem, PA- Bensalem Police Department responded to a robbery incident on Maltese Court involving the theft of jewelry from a 79-year-old woman. The robbery occurred on September 9, when two suspects drove a black SUV to the victim’s residence, and a female suspect approached her. The victim, who only speaks Gujarati, was unable to comprehend the suspect’s language during the confrontation.

Video surveillance captured the incident, showing the female suspect removing jewelry from the victim’s neck and attempting to replace it with counterfeit pieces. Despite the elderly victim’s resistance, the suspects fled with two necklaces and a bracelet valued at approximately $15,000. Police investigation identified the SUV as a black Ford Explorer owned by AVIS Rental Car Company, and further footage identified the driver as Paul Miclescu from Baltimore, Maryland.

On September 26, Bensalem detectives, with assistance from the Baltimore County Police Department, apprehended Miclescu at his residence. Although other jewelry pieces were found, none belonged to the victim. Authorities suspect the jewelry was pawned in Maryland. Miclescu later confessed to driving the SUV at the time of the robbery.
