Police say suspected dealer was caught after an apparent street-level drug transaction in Roxbury

BOSTON, Mass. — A drug investigation near Nubian Square ended with a suspected cocaine dealer in handcuffs Tuesday evening after Boston police said officers witnessed an apparent narcotics transaction on a busy Roxbury street.

Members of the Boston Police Department’s Neighborhood Engagement Safety Team conducted the operation around 6 p.m. near 2359 Washington St. as part of ongoing efforts targeting drug activity and quality-of-life complaints in the area.

According to investigators, officers observed an apparent drug transaction between the suspect and another individual during surveillance operations.

Police said the second individual involved in the encounter was issued a summons to appear in Roxbury District Court on a charge of possession of Class B drugs.

Officers then approached the suspect near the Nubian Square Bus Station and took him into custody without incident.

Authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old Kareem Lamont Woods of Hyde Park.

During the booking process, investigators said officers recovered 67 small plastic bags containing approximately 34 grams of a substance believed to be crack cocaine along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Woods is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of trafficking cocaine and distribution of Class B drugs as a subsequent offense.

The arrest was part of ongoing enforcement efforts by the department’s Neighborhood Engagement Safety Team, which focuses on crime suppression and community safety initiatives in targeted areas across Boston.
