BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – John Catalano, the Republican candidate for mayor in Brick Township, had sharp words for New Jersey Democrats seeking to ban gas stoves and gas cars to force residents to switch to electric-powered appliances and transportation.
Catalano, a New Jersey State Assemblyman, is running against Democrat Councilwoman Lisa Crate, head of the Jackson Education Association teachers union.
In a recent public statement, Catalano expressed serious concerns over Governor Murphy’s proposed energy policies, which seek to ban affordable natural gas in the state, a policy championed by Democrats across New Jersey.
Catalano warned that such policies could harm utility costs, resulting in increased financial burdens for low- and middle-income families. By limiting access to affordable natural gas, they argue that the state could see a significant rise in energy expenses, thereby exacerbating issues of affordability in New Jersey.
“The hypocrisy of the Murphy administration has shown no limits as he tries to force electric vehicles down consumers’ throats after using taxpayer dollars to purchase an expensive fleet of gas-powered SUVs earlier in the year. Why didn’t he lead by example and purchase a fleet of EVs if the environment is his number one concern?” Asm. Catalano asked. “Governor Murphy has shown that the rules do not apply to him, his administration, or other top Democrat officials in New Jersey. It’s ridiculous to tell consumers they are under no ‘obligation’ to buy EVs after he’s taken away every other choice.”
