TOMS RIVER, NJ – Bridge repairs on Route 37 westbound/Tunney Bridge in Toms River, Ocean County are set to begin on Monday, April 17, according to a statement released by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The left lane of the route will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., while the center lane may be closed as necessary at the same time. The work is expected to continue from Monday to Thursday for several weeks.

The repairs are part of a $9.6 million statewide Drawbridge Preventative Maintenance Contract. The aim of the project is to ensure the safety and longevity of the bridges in the state. Motorists on Route 37 westbound/Tunney Bridge are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while the repairs are ongoing. However, Route 37 eastbound/Mathis Bridge traffic will not be affected.

Variable messaging signs will be used to notify motorists in advance of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the repairs is subject to change due to weather or other factors, and motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for construction updates and real-time travel information.
