Bronx man arrested after fatal February crash that killed elderly pedestrian

BRONX, N.Y. — A 61-year-old Bronx man has been arrested in connection with a February crash that killed a 75-year-old pedestrian at a busy Bronx intersection, police announced.

Rafael Delgado, of Taylor Avenue, was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment and failure to yield and exercise due care in the death of Wahid Miah.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 3, at approximately 1:23 p.m. at the intersection of Wood Avenue and White Plains Road. According to the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad, Delgado was operating a 2023 BMW X5 westbound on Wood Avenue when he made a left turn onto southbound White Plains Road, striking Miah as he crossed the street.

EMS transported Miah to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

Driver remained on scene following crash

Police said Delgado remained at the scene following the collision. The case was investigated by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad, which later led to the filing of charges.

Authorities did not release additional details about the findings of the investigation or what factors may have contributed to the crash.

The investigation remains active.
