Brooklyn daycare teacher indicted for alleged sexual abuse of young children

BROOKLYN, NY – A Brooklyn daycare teacher has been indicted on charges that he sexually abused multiple young girls while working at a Bushwick childcare center, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

The defendant, identified as Devonte Brown, 30, of Bedford-Stuyvesant, was arraigned before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Leo on an indictment charging him with multiple counts of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Brown is accused of abusing four girls, ages five to nine, between April 2024 and August 2025.

Prosecutors allege the abuse occurred on multiple occasions while the children were under his supervision at the daycare and once during a trip to Brooklyn Bridge Park. Brown allegedly used his position to intimidate at least one of the children into remaining silent by threatening that another teacher would lose their job if the abuse was reported.

District attorney condemns abuse of trust

“The conduct alleged in this case shocks the conscience,” said District Attorney Gonzalez. “Innocent children were entrusted to a teacher’s care to safely learn and grow, but instead this defendant allegedly shattered that trust in the worst way. We will continue to aggressively prosecute this and any other case in which someone abuses their position of authority to harm a child.”

Brown faces charges including second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, first- and second-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held on $150,000 cash bail, with additional bond options set by the court.

The case is being handled by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Special Victims Bureau.
