Police say the suspect stole a Toyota Corolla in Glen Burnie before abandoning it in Baltimore
GLEN BURNIE, MD – A carjacker pulled a driver from his vehicle in a Taco Bell drive-thru Wednesday, jumped behind the wheel and struck the victim and a witness while speeding away in reverse, setting off a search that later led police to the abandoned car in Baltimore.
The carjacking unfolded at approximately 11:10 a.m. at the Taco Bell in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Officers responding to the restaurant spoke with the adult male victim and the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.
Investigators learned the suspect and his ex-girlfriend had received a ride to the Taco Bell before the suspect began behaving erratically, police said.
The suspect got out of the vehicle that brought them to the restaurant and approached another vehicle waiting in the drive-thru lane.
Police said he forcibly removed the driver and climbed into the vehicle.
The suspect then began driving away in reverse.
A witness attempted to intervene, but police said both the witness and the carjacking victim were struck by the fleeing vehicle.
Both suffered minor injuries.
The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Police said the suspect was last seen traveling on Interstate 695 in the Brooklyn Park area.
Officers searched for him but were unable to locate him.
Regional Crimes detectives later found the stolen vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Corolla, abandoned on North Kenwood Drive in Baltimore.
Police did not announce an arrest or provide a description of the suspect in the information released.
Detectives with the Regional Crimes Unit are continuing the investigation.
