Las Vegas man allegedly murdered by cellmate days before release

Las Vegas, NV A man serving time for larceny was allegedly murdered by his cellmate at High Desert State Prison just days before his scheduled release. The victim’s family has filed a lawsuit against the Nevada Department of Corrections, claiming officials failed to protect him despite warnings from his cellmate.

Jacob Herman, 35, was reportedly stabbed and strangled by an inmate serving a life sentence for brutal murders. The lawsuit outlines systemic issues such as overcrowding and understaffing at the prison, asserting that these factors contributed to Herman’s death.

The lawsuit reveals that Herman’s cellmate, identified as “King,” had previously threatened him and exhibited a violent history. Despite the warnings, prison officials placed the two men in the same cell block in the days leading up to the incident.

On July 16 at approximately 2:50 a.m., King allegedly killed Herman and later informed corrections officers of the incident. The family of Herman claims the Nevada Department of Corrections acted with indifference to the threats made against him.

Herman had entered the Nevada Department of Corrections on May 20, 2024, after being convicted of larceny from a person. The complaint highlights King’s previous convictions, including the violent murders of a mother and her child.

Herman’s family seeks accountability from prison officials, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future. Following the incident, the Nevada Department of Corrections did not respond to requests for comment.

Gainesville, FL

Baylee Jordan Graham, 30, is in custody following an incident at a McDonald’s where she allegedly assaulted a sheriff’s deputy. The incident began shortly after midnight on Tuesday when a deputy responded to a call regarding Graham refusing to leave the restroom.

Upon arrival, the deputy attempted to communicate with Graham, who provided a false name. When Graham exited the bathroom, the deputy charged her phone to facilitate a call for a ride, which led Graham to call 911, claiming she was at a nearby Circle K.

The deputy informed Graham that calling 911 for a ride was a criminal offense. Despite an offer to drive her home, Graham repeatedly refused.

Graham allegedly continued to call 911, prompting dispatchers to notify the deputy of her actions. The deputy instructed her to stop making the calls, but Graham persisted, leading the deputy to approach her.

When the deputy took hold of Graham’s arm, she allegedly struck the deputy in the face, stating, “Do not touch me.” Additional deputies arrived as Graham resisted arrest and attempted to obstruct the vehicle door.

The arrest report indicates that Graham made a total of 14 calls to 911 during the encounter. While in the patrol car, she allegedly made a remark about not being prepared and mentioned harming the deputy in another situation.

Day care worker sentenced to 10 years after toddler abuse caught on video

Lindale, TX

Catherine Guziejka, a 45-year-old day care worker, has received a 10-year prison sentence for abusing multiple toddlers at Punkin’ Doodles Day Care. The abuse occurred over several months and was documented through security footage.

Guziejka pleaded guilty in September to charges of injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury. The incidents took place between July and October when Guziejka was observed kicking children in the back and performing other abusive actions.

Smith County assistant district attorney Richard Vance stated Guziejka received the longest sentence permissible for her offense. Victim families expressed dissatisfaction with the severity of the sentence.

Investigations began on October 23 when an employee reported Guziejka after viewing surveillance footage. This review led to the discovery of 134 instances of Guziejka assaulting at least six 2-year-olds.

The court heard multiple reports of Guziejka kicking toddlers while they were seated and using other forms of aggression. Victims were seen being forcibly held down or dragged to changing tables.

Melanie Dawn Law, the former owner of the day care, confirmed to police that Guziejka had been abusing children since July. Guziejka was terminated from her position once the footage was revealed, and all pertinent videos were handed to investigators.

Sheriff Larry Smith remarked on the fortunate circumstance that no serious injuries occurred, noting only minor bruises were reported among victims.

Guziejka’s defense attorneys cited her low IQ in an attempt to explain her behavior. However, Vance highlighted that the children showed no clear reason for the ongoing abuse, raising concerns about their long-term mental health.

Two women charged with second-degree murder after fatal shooting during police search

Paris, MO

Two women are facing second-degree felony murder charges following a police search that led to a deadly shooting. Patty Armour, 51, and Lois Armour, 78, were arrested after allegedly misleading law enforcement about the whereabouts of a man wanted in a murder investigation.

Law enforcement arrived at a residence in Paris, Missouri, on October 12 as part of a probe into a homicide in Ralls County. During their encounter, the women informed officers that 57-year-old Charles Armour was not present, despite him being concealed in the master bathroom and armed.

Authorities eventually located Charles Armour, who opened fire on officers, injuring one. This officer was treated at an area hospital and later released, while the suspect died during the exchange of gunfire.

Patty and Lois Armour, initially arrested on felony hindering prosecution charges, are now being held without bond due to the new murder charges. Their initial bond was set at $50,000, which increased to $100,000 before they were denied bail.

The relationship between the women and Charles Armour remains unclear. They are scheduled to appear in Monroe County court on Wednesday.

Fairfax, OH

A 14-year-old boy pleaded guilty to the murder of Sheila “Denise” Tenpenny, 64, in her home. The boy entered a plea deal that included charges of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, and strangulation.

On February 2, Tenpenny was alone in her home on Germania Street when the boy attacked, causing blunt-force trauma before strangling her to death. The victim put up a fight, resulting in her acquiring hair from the attacker and leaving his DNA under her fingernails.

Investigators found scratches on the boy’s face and blood throughout the house. Following the murder, he posted on social media, stating, “This one was a fighter.”

The boy had planned the crime for months, researching online. He asked questions about how to choose a victim and how to handle a police interrogation.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation Agent David Ward remarked on the chilling nature of the crime given the boy’s age. He mentioned that the investigative team had seen DNA mistakes that ultimately aided in identifying the assailant.

As part of the plea deal, the boy will be held at the Ohio Department of Youth Services until he turns 21. Tenpenny is remembered as a kind individual who touched the lives of those around her.

Caregiver sentenced to 25 years for the abuse and neglect of disabled woman

New Braunfels, TX A 54-year-old caregiver has been sentenced to 25 years in a state correctional facility for the severe abuse and neglect of the disabled woman she was employed to care for. Brandy Marie Doster pleaded guilty to one count of injury to a disabled individual causing serious bodily injury.

The investigation into Doster began on May 21 when an emergency call led police to the victim’s body in a parked car. Doster’s estranged daughter reported her mother arrived at her home claiming an accident had occurred, alleging the victim was “sleeping” in the backseat.

Upon arriving at the victim’s residence, Doster’s daughter found the victim’s body wrapped in an emergency blanket. The investigation revealed Doster, a longtime family friend, had been hired on a full-time basis following the victim’s traumatic brain injury, which caused frequent seizures. While Doster had health care experience, she was not a licensed caregiver in Texas.

Initially, the victim’s family trusted Doster completely, providing her a $70,000 salary and allowing her access to the victim’s home and vehicle. Over time, Doster isolated the victim and limited family contact, claiming it was necessary for the victim’s health.

Doster’s daughter witnessed her mother abuse the victim but felt powerless to intervene. The daughter reported seeing Doster tie the victim’s hands and feet to furniture, hit her, and use a sock to muffle her screams.

During the initial police interview, Doster claimed to have memory issues, stating she “blacked out” on the night the victim died. After being confronted with medical evidence, Doster changed her story, admitting knowledge of the victim’s broken arm before her death.

The victim’s cause of death was determined to be fatal sepsis due to untreated injuries. Doster eventually acknowledged she had delayed seeking medical help, intending to drop off her dog in San Antonio despite passing multiple hospitals en route.

Doster admitted to restraining the victim for what she claimed was the victim’s safety. Investigators presented extensive evidence of ongoing abuse and neglect, highlighting a pattern of disregard for the victim’s well-being.

Man accused of breaking into homes of deceased victims in Alabama

Alabaster, AL A man is in custody for burglarizing homes of individuals who recently died. Peter Michael Petitti, 40, has been arrested following a traffic stop after he allegedly broke into a residence to steal property from a deceased individual.

This incident marks the second time in three months Petitti has committed such offenses during mourning periods. The Alabaster Police Department linked him to the burglaries through video surveillance and his specific method of operation.

Petitti reportedly checked obituaries and social media to target his victims. Alabaster Police Detective Andrew Rowan stated that it’s reasonable to assume obituaries may have informed Petitti’s actions based on the circumstances.

The first burglary incident occurred in August, while the latest event took place on Sunday. In the latter case, he was identified after attempting to enter a home in the Park Forest neighborhood.

The previous break-in involved significant damage to doors and theft of minor valuables. Originally charged with fourth-degree burglary, Petitti now faces additional charges, including third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Petitti was out on bail by August 20, before being arrested again on November 9, with his bond revoked the following day.

Detective Rowan expressed disdain for Petitti’s actions, describing them as disturbing and said the victims’ families should not endure such violations during their time of grief.

The stolen items included jewelry and family heirlooms. The police have initiated efforts to recover the missing possessions.

Petitti is currently held in Shelby County Jail without bond as a precaution against further offenses.

Two men convicted in murder-for-hire plot after teenager reported sexual assault

Brooksville, FL

Lenard White was found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder and murder-for-hire on Monday in connection with the death of 17-year-old Isabella Scavelli. His cousin, Sheldon Robinson, received the same verdict for accepting $6,000 from White to facilitate the fatal shooting.

Jurors heard that on February 6, Scavelli and her mother accused White of sexually assaulting the teenager. The next day Robinson allegedly shot Scavelli in front of her mother, who was also injured in the attack.

Evidence presented at trial indicated that Scavelli was killed as she attempted to flee from her front door. Prosecutors stated that White had traveled to Georgia shortly after reporting the assault in an effort to establish an alibi.

Investigators executed over 70 search warrants, which led to a detailed understanding of Robinson’s actions on the day of the murder. Communications from Robinson’s phone revealed requests for assistance with a “clean-up job” linked to the crime.

Months after the incident, authorities recovered the handgun used in the murder from a wooded area behind Robinson’s home. White and Robinson were accused of trying to hinder the investigation by tampering with evidence and making false statements to law enforcement.

Robinson and White also discussed plans to kill another potential witness. A third defendant, Keshawn Woods, has pleaded guilty in connection with the case and is awaiting sentencing.

Sentencing for White and Robinson is scheduled for January 30, 2026. They face mandatory life sentences in federal prison.

Father sentenced for leaving children in sweltering car while visiting adult store

Phoenix, AZ Four children were left in a parked car that reached 124 degrees while their father, Ascencio Largo, visited an adult store. Largo, 38, was sentenced this week to four months in jail and 10 years of probation following an incident in July.

Largo was arrested on eight felony counts after a passerby reported the children inside the vehicle. Police arrived to find the car turned off and the windows rolled up, immediately recognizing the danger posed to the children.

After rescuing the children, officers provided water and placed them in a marked patrol SUV with air conditioning to cool down. The children, all under the age of 10, exhibited signs of heat distress, with body temperatures ranging from 99.7 to 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

During a court hearing, a prosecutor remarked on the immediate risk of death in this scenario. The judge noted the severity of the situation, critiquing Largo for his actions, stating he could have exited the store to discover his children had died.

Reports indicated that Largo appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident and had not responded to multiple announcements by store employees about the parked car. Emergency responders noted that the children were visibly suffering, sweating profusely and exhibiting red skin.

Largo attempted to exit the store through a back door when questioned by officers. His initial denial that the car belonged to him changed when he encountered emergency vehicles surrounding the Nissan.

The incident has drawn significant attention, highlighting the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, especially in extreme heat.

New Jersey lawsuit filed against U.S. Department of Education over loan forgiveness eligibility

New jersey lawsuit filed against u. S. Department of education over loan forgiveness eligibility

Lawsuit filed against U.S. Department of Education over loan forgiveness eligibility

Trenton, NJ – Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and 21 other attorneys general have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education regarding its eligibility restrictions for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The PSLF program allows federal student loans to be forgiven after a decade of public service.

The lawsuit challenges a recent federal rule that determines certain state governments or nonprofit organizations as ineligible employers for PSLF based on a vague standard involving “substantial illegal” activities. The coalition asserts that this broad interpretation unfairly targets specific states and organizations associated with ideologies disfavored by the administration.

Platkin criticized the new rule, claiming it represents an illegal attack on public servants who contribute significantly to their communities. The PSLF program, established in 2007, incentivizes individuals to work in public service fields, enabling over one million public servants to pursue careers that otherwise may not have been financially viable.

On October 31, the Department of Education finalized a rule allowing it to declare organizations ineligible for PSLF if the administration identifies them as having a substantial illegal purpose. The definition of illegality includes activities connected to immigration support, political protests, and gender-affirming healthcare, with the rule set to take effect in July 2026.

The coalition argues this vague authority could result in many public workers losing PSLF eligibility. Such changes would lead to staffing shortages and increased turnover in crucial public service jobs.

The lawsuit asserts that the new rule is unlawful and contravenes existing PSLF regulations, which guarantee forgiveness for those in qualifying public service roles. The attorneys general seek a court ruling declaring the rule invalid and halting its implementation.

Joining Platkin in this legal action are the attorneys general of New York, Massachusetts, California, and Colorado, along with others from across the country. A group of local governments and private plaintiffs is also filing a separate lawsuit to challenge the new rule.

Miami, FL

A woman has been charged in the death of her 9-month-old son after he ingested lethal amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine. Natalia Munoz-Paulino, 26, faces second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse charges.

The boy was pronounced dead on July 2. A probable cause arrest affidavit details that police responded to a local hospital, where the child was reported deceased.

Munoz-Paulino stated she fell asleep while holding her son and woke to find him unresponsive. However, she provided varying accounts to investigators, claiming the boy had fallen, drowned, or choked.

The suspect mentioned her son had a history of placing foreign objects in his mouth. An autopsy revealed eggshells and feathers present in his stomach alongside the drugs discovered in his system.

The cause of death was determined to be a homicide stemming from child neglect, attributed to the presence of narcotics. Munoz-Paulino admitted to using drugs over the weekend preceding her son’s death.

She remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with no bond and has pleaded not guilty. The boy’s father, residing out of state, reported previous observations of drug use at the apartment.

Man pleads guilty to DWI deaths in Missouri crash

Mexico, MO A Missouri man received a conditional sentence following a guilty plea in connection to the deaths of two individuals in a drunk-driving incident. Joshua Frye, 24, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of driving while intoxicated causing death, reckless driving, and DWI causing serious injury.

The fatal crash occurred on July 12, as Frye drove on the wrong side of South Clark Street in Mexico. Court documents reveal that Frye drove at an excessive speed before striking an oncoming vehicle, leading to a head-on collision.

Prosecutors described the incident as careless and imprudent. The victims were identified as Kristian Pritchett, 22, and Austin Terry, 27, who were passengers in Frye’s vehicle during the crash.

A third person, Elliot Kitson, 29, sustained injuries but survived the incident. The driver of the other vehicle reported that Frye’s car lost control on a curve shortly before impact at approximately 6:30 a.m.

Following the crash, law enforcement discovered multiple alcoholic beverages inside Frye’s vehicle. During court proceedings, Audrain County Prosecutor Jacob Shellabarger announced that Frye was sentenced to 15 years for the vehicular homicide charge and additional time for the other charges.

These sentences will run concurrently, but they are suspended pending Frye’s completion of a 120-day treatment program. He has been in custody since the crash due to his own injuries.

The victims’ families expressed opposition to the plea deal. They communicated their desire for Frye to serve the maximum possible punishment, emphasizing the irreversible losses they suffered.

Shellabarger noted Frye’s lack of a prior criminal history when discussing the plea deal. He addressed the severe consequences of Frye’s actions, reaffirming the gravity of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Frye will face probation if he completes the treatment program. He will also be subject to strict terms of probation should he be released.

Palm Beach, FL

A 32-year-old man is in custody after allegedly threatening violence against a local megachurch and politicians. Michael Ioboni was arrested following a series of concerning videos posted on social media. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office began its investigation after receiving tips on Saturday about Ioboni’s threats.

Ioboni reportedly claimed he would target Christ Fellowship church and others he deemed corrupt. He made these statements shortly after being terminated from his job and posted the videos on November 4. In one video, Ioboni was recorded mimicking shooting a rifle while expressing his anger at his dismissal.

Authorities were alerted by his comments as a significant event at Christ Fellowship was scheduled for the following day, expected to draw around 1,000 attendees. Ioboni lives less than two miles from the church and had planned to tour the facility. It remains unclear why he chose to direct threats toward the church.

In a separate video posted on Friday, Ioboni issued further threats. He claimed he had evidence against several politicians and asserted that his actions would begin if anything happened to him while exercising his First Amendment rights. Investigators found concerns heightened due to Ioboni’s past incidents with firearms.

He had previously been caught firing a gun in a public space by Florida Fish and Wildlife in 2023. Following his arrest, Ioboni was taken to Palm Beach County Jail, where he is being held on a $250,000 bond. His court date is set for December 9.
