Former Christie aide sentenced to ten-year prison term in child sex abuse

Washington Township, NJ – A former aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was sentenced to ten years in prison after admitting to conduct involving a six-year-old child.

He acknowledged paying the child’s father, who remains under indictment.

Kevin Tomafsky, 43, pleaded guilty to first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and must serve five years before becoming eligible for parole.

Key Points

  • Former Christie aide pleaded guilty to first-degree child endangerment
  • Investigators traced illicit online material to Tomafsky following a platform alert
  • A judge imposed a ten-year sentence with lifetime Megan’s Law registration

Superior Court Judge Roger Lai issued the sentence, which also requires Tomafsky to remain on the Megan’s Law registry for life.

Investigators began reviewing the case in October 2022 after Snapchat submitted a report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which referred the matter to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office for further review. Prosecutors, using warrant-obtained platform records, identified Tomafsky as the original recipient of material depicting criminal conduct involving a child. A subsequent search of his Washington Township home led to the seizure of multiple devices containing illegal child exploitation files, and a forensic review linked the downloads and transmissions to him.

A grand jury returned an indictment in July 2023, and Tomafsky was arrested on August 15 after the filing.
