Chemical Process Triggers Fire Response at Cherry Hill Facility, No Public Threat Found

Cherry Hill, NJ – The Cherry Hill Fire Department responded to a reported building fire Monday evening at an industrial facility on Hollywood Avenue, where firefighters determined smoke and an odor were caused by a routine chemical process rather than an active fire.

Crews were dispatched to 616 Hollywood Avenue and arrived within approximately five minutes, where they encountered a light haze of smoke and an odor coming from the building.

After investigating, firefighters determined the smoke and odor resulted from an issue involving a routine chemical process inside the facility.

The Cherry Hill Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit, assisted by the Camden City Fire Department and Camden County Public Safety HazMat teams, conducted air quality monitoring while working with plant personnel to safely resolve the situation.

Officials said air monitoring confirmed there was no threat to public health.

Nearby residents advised to remain indoors

As a precaution, emergency responders contacted residents living near the facility and advised them to remain indoors until the odor dissipated.

The incident was brought under control approximately 90 minutes after firefighters arrived.

No injuries were reported among plant employees, nearby residents, or emergency responders.
