SILVER SPRING, MD – A 13-year-old girl was critically injured Sunday evening after being struck by a car while crossing Georgia Avenue near Evans Drive, police said.

The collision occurred around 6:17 p.m. and involved a 2004 Acura TL traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue.

Emergency crews from the 3rd District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and found the child in the roadway with life-threatening injuries.

Police investigating cause of crash

Police confirmed that the child remains in critical but stable condition. Officers closed portions of Georgia Avenue for several hours Sunday evening as collision reconstruction specialists gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.
