CMPD officer charged with communicating threats after off-duty incident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officer has been charged with communicating threats following an off-duty incident Tuesday evening, the department announced Wednesday.

Officer Jazmin Featherstone, assigned to CMPD’s Eastway Division, was issued a criminal summons after a 911 caller reported being threatened during an altercation involving Featherstone and another individual. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the Freedom Division and involved allegations of verbal threats and a firearm being pointed at the victim.

Detectives interviewed all parties involved at CMPD’s Law Enforcement Center. The victim pursued charges through the Mecklenburg County Magistrate, resulting in a criminal summons against Featherstone for communicating threats.

In addition, a warrant was issued for Shawn Marie Rice, 54, for assault by pointing a gun, damage to property, and communicating threats.

Featherstone, who was off duty at the time, has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation by CMPD’s Internal Affairs Division. She was hired on October 23, 2023.
